Home of the First Special Olympics Ballroom Dance Competition in the USA

Welcome! Our mission is to improve the quality and the quantity of ballroom dancing in the United States. Fort Wayne Dancesport is chapter #2046 of USA Dance, Inc. (formerly the U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association). USA DANCE is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization serving as the National Governing Body for Dancesport in the USA - Member of the International Dance Sport Federation (IDSF) and an Affiliate Member of United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

two_awards_smallOn August 14th David Hans, President of USA Dance Fort Wayne Dancesport chapter traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the annual USA Dance Region II meeting and it was announced by Bobbi Jo Gamache, Vice President of Region 2 that Fort Wayne Dancesport had been named the 2008 Region 2 Chapter of the Year based on their extensive work in sharing their chapters love for ballroom dancing by working with the Special Olympics Indiana in training Special Olympics athletes and hosting the competition at which they competed. All of the Unified Sports Dance partners of the Special Olympics athletes were members of USA Dance Fort Wayne Dancesport #2046 and they all volunteer their time for this program as well as many behind the scene volunteers from the chapter. Also honored as 2008 Region 2 Volunteer of the Year was Vivian Hans of the Fort Wayne Dancesport chapter for bringing USA Dance and Special Olympics Indiana together and devoting her time and efforts to this special program that brings USA Dance to a level of national recognition with this project. This program has been a inspiration to other USA Dance chapters all across the United States and Region 2 was excited to honor the Fort Wayne Dancesport chapter for their work with Special Olympics athletes.

Chapter Member is National Volunteer of the Year

USA Dance presented its National Volunteer of the Year award for 2008-2009 to Fort Wayne Dancesport member Vivian Hans. Vivian received the honor during the USA Dance National Dancesport Championships in Baltimore in early April. Vivian is a charter member of Fort Wayne Dancesport. She has served in the past as chapter president and presently as newsletter editor. Along with her husband David, she serves as the Indiana State Coordinator. During 2008 Vivian served as membership chairman, 2008 charity dance committee member and as the Fort Wayne Dancesport representative and major driving contributor on the three charities (USA Dance Fort Wayne Dancesport, Special Olympics Indiana and Easter Seals ARC) that worked to bring ballroom dancing opportunities to the world of individuals with intellectual disabilities. She served as organizer of the USA Dance 2008 Fort Wayne Dancesport Championships, which included the nation's first Special Olympics ballroom dancing competition.
